Behind our Training Program

Adoption Information

At Patriot PAWS, our mission is to provide disabled Veterans with Service Dogs of the highest quality. Because of the rigorous standards and specialized training required for certification, not every dog is able to complete the program as a Certified Service Dog.

When a dog is not suited for full service work, they are thoughtfully transitioned into other rewarding roles or home environments. Many go on to serve in different capacities, while others become cherished family companions.

Although these dogs may not meet the specific medical, behavioral, or temperamental requirements needed for certification, they have still received exceptional training and care through our program.

If you are considering adopting one of these wonderful dogs as a family pet, please review the FAQs below to learn more about the adoption process and what to expect.

Because they didn't complete our training program, some of the dogs we have available for adoption may have some type of medical, behavioral, or temperamental problem. These issues will be fully disclosed to you before the adoption takes place.

Each dog available for adoption has gone through different levels of training, so your pet has likely received some training in our Service Dog program. Upon adopting a Patriot PAWS dog, you will receive a description of all the cues he/she has been taught.

Though we do our best to account for specific requests, dogs are paired with families based on two criteria: the information provided in your application, and a compatibility evaluation our trainers will perform. We review every single application we receive, so these extra details will help us find the best match for our dogs and your family.

We reserve the right to deny an applicant based on any information provided to us about a potential adopter or adoptive home.

No. Dogs adopted from Patriot PAWS are adopted out as companions only. The person adopting the dog agrees to assume all responsibility and liability for the dog, and the dog cannot taken out in public as a service animal in any way or form.
